Which power supply we have to use ?
@Kyle Novak that's not possible. The dimming is accomplished by limiting the current to the light strip. It wouldn't be possible to brighten one strip while dimming another if both are controlled by the same dimmer. The only possiblity is to have more than one strip dim at the same level from the same dimmer.
What if i wanted one dimmer to crossfade between the color temps so that tungsten was far left on dimmer, then turning knob to the right would slowly fade it to daylight?
Which diffusion sheet did you use - white, heavy frost, or light frost?
@SuperHification Thanks! That's coming up with tons more!
2018 ppl builiding this for YT studios..... 2020 ppl building this for zoom meetings
Hey, maybe you want to make better version of that? smaller and better :) love this idea and how you make it!
Hey Matt, I'm part way through building these to improve my horrendous home office lighting, whilst working from home. What plastic are you using? Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places but all the sheets seem to be over £100. I'm using wood for the back strips and end caps instead, which I'm sure will be fine. For future reference, though, it'd be good to know where you got it from and how might is is. All you gave us was an enigmatic 'low cost'. You're right about the nut riveter - I'm having to stop myself actively looking for things to put them in.
Clear Acetate Sheets medium thickness. They're suppose to be cheap (at least here in the US -- and he's not American so)
They look great. Problem I have is as a glasses wearer I just end up with reflections in the lenses. That's a challenge in itself!
"Without further ado, here is some further ado!"
for the Algorithm
Amazing creation and presentation as per usual! I tip my hat to you sir ;-) Trying to grab the diffusion sheet not sure which one? Light/heavy or white? Cheers!
do you get flickering video if u shoot in 120fps using this light ???
Do you have any recommendations for the amperage of the 12V power supply?
He commented about 2-3A each. I plumped for a 10A (120W) one from Amazon.
I have NEVER thought ice blue and daylight LED strips could achieve something this fantastic. Great job, definitely using this in the future for looks.
Питер Паркер занимается хуйней.
Pls tell me the name of his desk lamp
Inexpensive? Not easy to make 🙁 first have to buy a bunch of tools
Not a good idea to contaminate the soils with aluminium. They might be small pieces now but under the influences of microbial and environmental corrosion is shall disperse. Please consider collecting the dust and disposing appropriately, while you do speak of recycling and environment.
I am sure this guy fall in love for aluminium
Very cool! Sadly I'll never build it, very expensive and haed
Arri charge $10K for their light panel, for under $200 this panel probably perform 95% of the Arri light
DIY grow lights, great!
hi Matt thank you for all this interesting DIY i have a question or if you prefer a new DIY for you can you do the same light, but this time made it for bird ( our eyes see in RGB but birds see 4 color UV +RGB i give you several link explaining how is this work for them : www.boredpanda.com/human-vs-bird-vision/? www.thespruce.com/how-birds-see-color-386467 the third link you can see th e Types of UV bird need's www.herebird.com/avian-lighting/ this is link give you more information www.waveformlighting.com/avian-full-spectrum-led-lighting So can you do it? or can you suggest some led bar to add to this project to make it possible to use it for bird room thank you
I just love your videos!!!
Have you patented this
How thick is the pvc you used? Thank you.
Very impressive
Matt, your image is plastered all over the internet on advertisements for LED strips, many of them pixelated. You're famous all over China it seems.
keep up the good work!
legend
OMG!!!!! That's perfect even for selling!!!!!
Awesome 👍 Excellent Work🙏
if youre going to have it on a stand anyways why not construct a larger chasis and not have 5 of them together?
Here is my version of the DIY softbox and it's fantastic arworlds.info/video/yKmQnIqqloeijZo/fydyw
How about lighting a home green screen as evenly as possible and avoid those hotspots? These tubes look like the way to go especially increasing the length to suite the dimensions of screen help. If you haven't done anything on DIY green screen, how about the ultimo tutorial on that Matt? Possibly the most useful chap in the ARworlds universe!
Can you just mass produce them in various lengths?
Very interesting video. The one thing that I miss though is an indicator that allows setting the lights to a specific color temperature. If you three sets, you might be spending quite some time getting them in sync.
Aren't you just glad this guy exist? Needs more recognition to be honest.
protip: XT60s not barrel plugs
can I just buy it from you?
I just have scissors and glue
Simple, easy to understand, and great video
Great Job, but couldn't you have just sandpapered over the inside of the clear acetate to give it a frosting effect? Or just bought frosted acetate?
What is the name of this plant on the left at 0:08?
And is is a budget solution, the time spend is the cost of purchasing a professional grade. I get it DIY concept, you can build a car, but not as cost efficient as a car company.
Nice work!
When will DIY Perks start his own lighting company?
Hello Matt, I have built 3 of these and they are fine. But when I interconnect 2 of them they do not work. Maybe voltage drop? What power source do you use?
@DIY Perks I knew it. What is your power supply?
Sounds like a power supply issue! Make sure that you use a power supply that's able to drive them all. They use between 2-3a each, so 2 will need perhaps a 6a power supply.
8:40 - "But why would we need three power sockets?" 13:45 - "Oh. Damn, he's good!"
Oh I love these lights....
how much amperage power supply will be perfect can anyone suggest one i mean 12 v & ??amps
*Please for the love of life don't run electricity in the backplate.* That is a death trap. If you touch it and something grounded like a metal sink or heating element, you _will_ get a jolt that can _kill_ you if the power supply is not insulated enough. You should ground the back plate to the ground in your house, not negative of the power supply. Please delete this video and redo it in a safe way.
This man is amazing!
As usual great video and awesome build, but I'm not gonna lie, your first lighting setup was so much better than the second one. I think having a bit of contrast in your lighting is more interesting than the flat look you called an improvement. Anyway, love your videos man, keep being awesome!
Building in 2020 - The LED strips recommend using a 10A dimmer, not a 5A. Anyone know why that is?
What did you calculate the power usage on? I did a quick calculation and It would come around 48 watts per lamp (at the very max) so 240 watts on the full set of 5 lamps. Wich would be 20 amps on the first plug (the one you would plug in the PSU) and most plugs are rated for 3amp max (at 12v) . Could someone please tell me if I'm correct here and need to find a very beefy plug.
loved your videos. really noob friendly and your outputs are astonishing!
so funny the ali express link uses pictures from this video but with a blurred face
Cool
Many of the links don't work, yes I know it's from 2018.
Wow 🔥🔥❤️❤️👍👍👍
This is the nicest guy I have ever seen without even seeing him in person😍
Excellent Video as always, thank you for consistently producing such entertaining and high quality content! Would you by any chance have an alternative 24v recommendation for the Ice Blue Led strip (around 6500-8000k)? Thanks again
Could someone tell me what colour diffusion sheet I need please? The link gives 4 options: *white, light frost, heavy frost or clear* . I received the clear type but it's just clear plastic. Assuming the white is right? Also a tip on the clear acetate sheet for the front cover, I searched for a long time trying to find the right stuff and eventually settled on A0 size anti-glare covers for snap frames / pavement signs. These are common on ebay and therefore cheap, are all 400 microns thick which is nice and sturdy, but easily bends to a radius of 50mm. The anti-glare means they also diffuse the light a bit more.
Okay, so I recommend doing some research on the filters. The four have industry standard codes that come from Lee Filters: white - 216 (strong diffusion, commonly used), heavy frost - 129 (very similar to white, arguably softer), light frost - 253 (light softness, about sixteenth white), clear - 130 (does nothing) Having deliberated for a while I've decided to go with another supplier and *half white - 250* . White just seemed too much along with the light size (rather than a point source) and the anti-glare front acetate Lee Filters video: arworlds.info/video/mZ9vfZqimo6Iq54/fydyw Lee filters page: www.leefilters.com/lighting/diffusion-list.html Another UK ebay supplier with a full range of Lee Filters: www.ebay.co.uk/usr/showbitzltd2010
I just came from the invisible pc and monitor videos and i swear this guy has a lifetime supply of aluminium hidden somewhere.
thumbnail is ur profile pic.. nice
So what colour temperature range would you estimate these give? 3000K to 9000K ?
Before you can make your lamps, you have to attack a bank to afford the tools
So you are that kid from the "Home Alone" movie?😊

The poor hole filling and colour matching of the touch up is doing my head in!

I would make this with only daylight led. Great video
you should start selling your design, I bet many people buy them. They look great and pro!
Hi. New to the channel. Interesting project. As an EE and a photographer I am interested in info like power rating/requirements and light output for these. So far, following the links I find here I can not seem to find that sort of info. BTW, the foam material - what to look for, and where.
I wonder are there LED strip lights that are good enough to use for plant growth? If anything I feel the combination of lights could create a nice full spectrum for basic plants like basil and oregano but i'm not sure...
What power source you used?
Can you please share how to mak big ring light with miror ????
Very nice idea. I am now a patron. Looking forward to building some things.
A bit old, I know but where do you get your power supplies and how do you know how much power/watts you'll need to power the led strips? Also, where do you get your power sockets? I find the specs on those things SO varied and haven't even found a way to measure the pin inside a socket to see just what size it is even if I wanted to match a supply. Thanks. RichE San Diego, CA
Is there an easy of making the LED work on AC power? instead 12V DC supply?
Can I ask your opinion on ge tetra leds? I get em for free from my work
ha! little did he know that two years later the initial statement would be even more true than ever!
Can these lights be made smaller for lighting up myself while on a zoom call in front of my computer? If not, can you create a video for Zoom call lights?
Hey! Look at his "weird webcam mod that enables eye contact conversation" video, a few video's ago. The first part won't interest you, but in the last few minutes he makes a simpeler, smaller version of a light for video conferences!
If you go to aliexpress for the LED's they use pictures of him XD
Heads up your before and after pic had misleading elements. The point still Stands that more cri is better. I just think it can be represented in a more accurate way
I might be wrong, but dont you need an LED driver or power supply to convert 240VAC to 12VDC before connecting to the dimmer?
@diyperks any chance of a RGB version of this sometime?
i will smelling on your handsweat
What camera have you used to make this video?
So i can use this in both ntsc and pal ?so no more flickering?..
The light strips suggest to use a 10A or 15A dimmer switch but I can only find the 5A type. What will change between 5A 10A and 15A? Thanks!
So cool!
Hello Master ;) have you seen that they've used captures of you on AliExpress LED page that you've got link to in your description? :)
AlieExpress took your content and blured your face on the product page omg :')
i think he owns an aluminium company
Cool
Hi!! Can you please make a video on how to make DSLR speedlight??
This is so coool!!! The best diy channel!!!
Please make a video on music responding LED strips
0:10 So I saw a Video. He made a mini horror movie, and because the Video was too dark, I did not watch it. 😂😂😂
Hmm. Am I the only one that likes your "boring lighting" more than fancy lighting? Ups...
