OH GOD YES! IM SO HAPPILY GONNA DESTROY MY OLD LG G5 WITH A 2K SCREEN I CANT BELIEVE IT MATT IM SO EXCITED IMMA TURN THAT EWASTE INTO A F*CKING 2K PROJECTOR HELL YEAH
@Wade Eli awesome! Took about 10 minutes but it reallyworked!!
i dont know if anyone gives a damn but yesterday I hacked my girl friends Instagram account using Instaportal. Just google for it if you wanna try it
Thanks so much for this project! Quick question - How much is the maximum distance from the wall that this Projevtor setup can output without noticeable reduction in projected video quality?
How much did you spend to do this?
Awesome!
Wow
Great video! Thanks for making it. I’ve got a screen from an iPad mini 2 (200mm x 135mm, 2048x1536 resolution). Would that work for this project, or will it be too big?
I would love write subtitles for people who don't understand English, your projects are AWESOME. Greetings from Mexico.
What’s the final cost on this?
Any reason why you couldn't use a fresnel lens to focus the image on the screen instead of the circular lens? That said, really curious about the total cost of this, looks like it gets up there in price.
actually i thought a projector could use a lots of light.
There are lots of videos made on "DIY LED Video Wall" made using led strips but none of them are genuine,, could you "please" make a video on that.
Wow. Your le93ndary !
imagine that mounted upside down. headings banging left and right.
speakers?
check out related tech content on my channel 💕 please do subscribe
THANK YOU !!
Great Job! Very Enjoyable content as a fan of a good projector!
Wait a minute, you never compared the home-made projector to off-the-shelf $2000 one. :/
He did
Very cool, even if I have no chance of finding the time & patience to replicate a project like this! I wonder if an RGB light source would improve the brightness & reduce LCD thermal issues, as it would focus all of the power on the wavelengths that will pass through the LCD rather than be absorbed by it? You might find a 200w RGB LED doesn't increase the LCD temperature as much as a 100w white LED, though of course you'd need to boost the cooling of the LED. On the LED cooling, generally heat pipes tend to work better with gravity assisting them and the thermal load being at the bottom, so moving to a water cooling system may give big improvements if that's an issue. Awesome work. Love your videos!
😎
Maybe water cooling the screen by making the water pass between the screen and a 300W LED with a reflector would make it more silent and brighter..
Can LCD screen work, if we remove back polorizer layer?
i would love to see the 500w LED in it ;)
perfect :D
I bought an xperia xz for 99 € and put it in an F30 projector that I bought 1 year ago for 140 € the rendering is magnificent.
Are you serious? If so, I got the same things lying around - how did you do it?
Cool video - however why build this ? Walmart 43 inch 4k TV $228.
Oh I’m so tempted . Used to build speakers and amps when I was a lad. Great lockdown project. Thanks.
Fake. You'd never be able to find the focal point using the Sun in England.
why you are not Elon Musk!?!?
Hey Matt! Can you make a DIY RGB keyboard? Would be very interested to see how you'd do that!
I can't really think of any special way to do it tbh... there are switches that have an RGB LED integrated into them, and you can just plop them into a PCB that is compatible with them and call it a day Most keyboards use the clear/translucent housing switches with SMD LEDs on the boards (usually ws2812b or sk6812)
Great video, you really answered all questions I had during the video, thank you so much.
Most ppl here say they dont have the materials or money, well if you manage your money well and find a job, invest a bit and of that return you buy whatever you want, you make life easier!... C'mon YOU ARE GROWN, DON'T LIVE AN BROKE ADULT LIFE!
As a cinema 4K projector owner I will just deal with my latency by crying quietly
When he said 4k screens of this size are not at all common I was thinking of the sony And then he mentioned the sony I was like yeahh!!! XD
Going to have to build one an do some changes am thinking if springs between plates for leveling.
Hi.. Why do the front lens work from the side and not straight from the LCD screen? What's the difference if the LCD is straight in line with one line? Does it affect image quality?
Built them in the past. Cheaper to pay a few hundred bux nowadays and work to about 80inch in full light room. Just go for a cheaper multimedia projector, they work great aa a movie projector and more. Cheers
I don't see the point of expending a lot of time and energy building an admittedly impressive, but very cumbersome and large overhead projector from scratch, when the same thing could be made much more easily, cheaply, possibly better, and certainly more convenient by being much smaller, all by simply modifying a cheap old overhead projector with an appropriate LED light source, something I'm currently doing and hoping to do a video on. If anyone can tell me that I've missed something and therefore gotten it all wrong then please do let me know, I'd rather be proven wrong than remain ignorant! :)
I've seen many DIY projector builds where the LCD is in between the two Fresnel lenses, so that the light rays go straight through the panel... This is the first time I've seen it done this way with the LCD after the to Fresnel lenses. Is there any benefit to either way? My thought was that with the LCD in between the Fresnel lenses, the light will pass through the polarizing layer "easier" making the image brighter? Any thoughts on this?
the threading down those rods, over and over, no thanks
i calculated the cost and its around US $579.30 and im sure im missing some stuff like the laptop power supply, i'd be better off with a used 4k projector for a little over 600
I would like to have this projector.... Please give me
What do you mean.. Dont you know you Can just build it yourself?
What is that MUSIC? I know it from somewhere, like it's calling out from my deepest cgildhood memories!
Matt ... you are awesome. Thank you for existing.
I might have missed it, how much electricity does this use?
3 minutes in.......I go buy a Sony 4k projector for under 200 bucks 🙄
Higher wattage LED wouldn't that big of a deal. Either of custom water loop or an AIO water cooler running low RPM high static pressure fans. Might even be good for what you built here. Of course you now have to deal with a radiator at minimum, pump/res/rad at maximum. Crazy build, I LOVE it! I might actually build one of these....and I sent this vid to someone I know that wants a 4k projection SimPit for computer gaming. Not sure the details for translating to a computer output, but this person would be the one to bridge the gaps.
haha wonder how many spanners have destroyed phones trying to do this !
Very smart though :)
Nee poliya
Excellent video! Have you measured how many lumens it outputs?
Ok. How about a sound bar build to go with? Is it possible to build a diy Dolby Atmos or something like that?
The light shone is hot, no? How does it affects the panel?
very nice.
Interesting how many of you guys have this project done. Have you even started?)
Hello I'm mad
Since you use a mirror I wonder is the image reversed or is left right etc.??
Wonder if this is possible using Apple iPhone hardware...
This is what Elon Musk would be doing if he never created PayPal.
lol
The cost of the whole thing?
HE LOOKS LIKE SPIDERMAN TOBY
What a phenomenal super human. I enjoyed every video I've watched him produced.
what star ! thank you
Absolutely fun and i learned alot today, thanks man.
I love your ideas.
for a brighter LED why not add two more low noise fans at the lens section that blow towards the outside? Also, airflow is much more restricted when covered like that as opposed to a conventional fan grill
This is incredibly cool! Might be worth trying to replicate if it's as low cost as you suggested. I wonder, though, what is the maximum distance you can be from the screen and still have enough brightness and sharpness to call it 4K?
Yo, besides, I think you can grow hair then be a Curt Cobain twin;)
Next part: Bellows cooled projector
Figuring out if the phone is lcd or oled isn’t a problem, but how would one deduce whether the screen can be controlled remotely? I’ve got an old iPhone 6s that Id like to use for this project. I believe it does have an LCD screen.
Curious how you would make the projection angle adjustable. Or at least calculate the angle. I'm assuming it depends on the lens you use.
Start simple but it became for expert only!
I'm just rewatching to remind myself ill probably never build this , but its an awesome project
Amazing stuff! Would really like a 720 smallish projector maybe a raspberry pi for the underlaying computer stuff. Maybe have it driving a stepper motor for focus also.
How much is the cost for the whole project
Love it! I'm feeling a bit mindblown lol
Amazing and crazy...
i think u can try cars led projector headlamp, it give more bright..
Remember back in the 90's when Anthea Turner made Tracy Island out of cardboard on Blue Peter and you sent off for a "Fact Sheet"?...... Well this is the 21st century "God Tier" equivalent! 👍😎
a miniaturised 3d print solution would make this easy for anyone to make
its sad that there is a piece of hair in the image
Can it be done using amoled screen
Let me have yours mate. Brilliant video!
It’s 4
I am absolutely impressed the only thing I would add would be rubber grommets where the wires passed through the aluminum to avoid chafing
What should be the distance between light source and lens if I use multiple leds
Очень интересно, но не очень понятно, что говорит
Now instead of a phone hook it up to a Raspberry Pi 4, install Android TV on it and route an ethernet plug to the bottom of it.
Hi Matt, really amazing project!! Can it be used as a pc screen? And to take it a step further, is it possible to use it for photo editing?
Too complicated for me to get
Великолепный дизайн! Спасибо за отличное видео и вдохновение. Подписываюсь!
Great
Another excelent video from DIY Perks. I really enjoyed it !
I mean, I absolutely love having this DIY and all... but the parts cost is higher than retail 4k models, which are also more compact.
Very nice! Impressive and the best as always. Shame there no CSI or other modern universal adapters on the market yet, to utilize the high quality 4K cell phone video cameras. Thanks for sharing!
so here is a proposal. in order to reduce the heat, could you use a flat infrared filter?
Hey matt, could you do a follow-up on how one could connect this to a pc for gaming? because that would be really epic.
Maybe you can use remote control of your gaming pc through the android inside projector?
this with a built in HTPC would be dope... think i may set about doing that
Who wants to make me one?
You are a genius, your projector is a masterpiece, congratulations
How tf did he pronounce aluminum?
What if you cooled the lens with a blower, sound deaden the inside to reduce fan noise
